Bridging the Divide . . . Communicating Across Cultures - AUDIO
"Look at me when I am talking with you." In some cultures, this behavior is considered disrespectful, especially when talking to one in authority or an elder. We learn the nuances of acceptable and respectful conversation from our families. Do they match those of our patients or our colleagues? If not, what do we need to do?

In this 60-minute teleseminar, we will examine the communication styles of various ethnic groups, including the use of silence, eye contact and touch. These are essential tools that an interpreter employs while "translating the language."

Communication is not complete until the "time orientation" component is considered. We will review past, present and future time orientation and discuss their implications when developing a plan of care.
