Antiarrhythmic pharmacology is an important aspect of patient management in those with both atrial arrhythmias and also in those with life threatening ventricular arrhythmias. A fresh look at antiarrhythmic pharmacology will be presented, to help you understand the mechanism of action, as well as potential adverse effects.  Pharmacology will be linked to both the cardiac rhythm disturbance, as well as to patient characteristics, to create a holistic perspective regarding antiarrhythmic pharmacology.
Seminar Information
Seminar Date:
January 14, 2010
Seminar Objectives
  • Explain why electrolyte abnormalities can enhance the risk of adverse effects with antiarrhythmic therapy.
  • Describe why amiodarone is better tolerated than many other antiarrhythmics in patients with reduced left ventricular function.
  • Correlate antiarrhythmic pharmacology to the phase of the action potential where the drug exerts its action.
